Elaine Scheifele Collection

Scope and Contents

Prior to her wedding during World War II, Elaine was given the duties of Kalamazoo City Civilian Defense Air Raid Warden for Zone 5, Sector 529. In the course of the execution of her duties she compiled this book. The book details the structures on Bryant Street and Lane Blvd, as well as the occupants of those structures. The two streets are approximately one block apart.

Abstract

The collection is composed of one five-year diary owned by Ella Sheldon Rogers (1874-1944) who spent the last 14 years of her life in the Michigan cities of Kalamazoo and Delton. The collection additionally has two letters from Ella's son-in-law Leon Leonard, a diploma for her daughter Eloyse Rogers Leonard, their marriage certificate and a family cookbook compiled for Eloyse Rogers Leonard along with a few single sheets.

Elmore Y. Warner Letter

Scope and Contents The letter is dated March 24, 1862. It is filled with general news. He talks about that the regiment may be on the way further south. Warner had been sick but felt better.
